Rita Petro (Albania)
Rita Petro studied Albanian Language and Literature at the University of Tirana (1980-84). In 1993-1994 she specialized in Greek Philosophy and Culture at the University of Athens (Philosophical School, Kapodistrian University). From 1985 until 2000 she worked as an editor for the Textbook Printing House and was actively involved with working groups developing programs, standards, and training in language and literature at school. In 2000, along with Latif Ajrullai, she co-founded the ALBAS print house that is primarily known for publishing textbooks in Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Presevo and the diaspora.
Rita Petro has co-authored thirty-six textbooks on Albanian language and literature. She currently serves as director of the ALBAS publishing house. Rita Petro has participated in a number of poetry festivals both nationally and abroad, and her work appears in various literary magazines and anthologies of contemporary world literature, translated and published in French by Edmond Tupja, Ardian Marashi; in German by Hans. J. Lanksch; in English by Robert Elsie and Ukë Bucpapaj; in Romanian by Marius Dobrecsu and Luan Topçiu.
